Almost every state in Nigeria is owing workers’ salaries including allowances for the Senior (Pensioners) citizens in their various states despite the federal allocation and also the internally generated revenue from their states. What could be the reasons for this unpleasant system by various state governments in Nigeria? This is a surprising situation. It was revealed recently that Kogi state government said that there are not owing workers more than twelve months salary, this is a very shameful act. Does Kogi state have to owe workers’ salaries when federal allocation is paid to them? Every state government in Nigeria receives allocation on monthly basis, the Paris loan refund were given to every state government in Nigeria to enable them settle workers’ salaries in their various states but up till now the issue of workers not being paid their salaries keep coming up every time. Our take on this is that the governors in each state of Nigeria who could not pay workers’ salaries and also the allowances of the Senior (Pensioners) citizens in their various states are either stealing the money and using it for their own personal gains or they lack the ability to manage their various states properly. If not, there is no reason workers should not be paid. These are workers with needs, they have families and lots of responsibilities to cater for and if their salaries are not being paid as at when due, it then means that their life situation would not be stable, this may even lead to death. When an individual had worked throughout the month and his or her salary is not paid, how do you want them to survive? We (Viewers Corner News and the advisory team) are appealing to all the state governments in Nigeria who are among those owing workers’ salaries in their states to please pay them what rightfully belongs to them because they earned it and should be given to them. If after working for a state or a company and the wages/salaries are not paid, such act should be regarded as wickedness which is capable of bringing whoever that is responsible for such terrible act backward. Please state governors in Nigeria, pay workers their salaries and the Senior (Pensioners) citizens of your states their allowances because that is their means of livelihood and not paying them as at when due will create real problems in their various families.
