AUDI CEO, RUPERT STADLER WAS ON MONDAY ARRESTED BY GERMAN AUTHORITIES OVER AUDI’S EMISSIONS TEST CHEATING SCANDAL.

German authorities arrested Rupert Stadler (head of Volkswagen’s luxury arm Audi) at his home in Ingolstadt on Monday, June 18, 2018 over Audi’s emissions test cheating scandal. He is the company’s most senior official to be arrested over the Audi’s diesel scandal. Rupert Stadler’s arrest according to Munich prosecutors is to prevent him from hindering their investigation. In September 2015, Volkswagen admitted of using illegally software to cheat United States emissions tests on diesel engines. In May, the United States filed criminal charges against Martin Winterkorn (former Volkswagen CEO) but he may not face United States authorities since Germany does not extradite its citizens to countries outside the European Union. Most of the automaker’s problem is from United States but other countries are carrying out investigation on the diesel scandal. Recently, Volkswagen was fined 1 billion euros ($1.2 billion) over the diesel scandal.
