It was reported that Prabu N Pathmanathan, a convicted Malaysian drug trafficker was on Friday, 26 October 2018 hanged in Singapore’s Changi Prison. He was executed in the presence of his family members and a representative from the Malaysian embassy. Viewers Corner News correspondent learned that the Malaysian government under the administration of Prime Minister Mahathir Mohamad which abolished death penalty recently pleaded that the 31-year-old Prabu N Pathmanathan be spared from execution on humanitarian grounds but Singaporean authorities rejected the plea.
Prabu N Pathmanathan was sentenced to death in 2014 for trafficking 227.82 grams (7.97 ounces) of heroin into Singapore.
According to Amnesty International, in the last two years Singapore has executed 14 people for drug offences.
