Viewers Corner News correspondent learned that Takeda Pharmaceutical Co. (Japanese drug maker) has agreed to buy the Irish pharmaceuticals firm, Shire Plc for 46 billion pounds ($62.4 billion). The payment of the deal which is said to be one of the biggest deals ever in the pharmaceuticals industry will be done in cash and stock. The deal will give Takeda a larger presence in the United States where Shire Plc has large operations. Takeda is expanding its operations in overseas, last year the company (Takeda) purchased Ariad Pharmaceuticals of Cambridge (Massachusetts). Shareholders of Takeda Pharmaceutical Co. and Shire Plc will each own about 50 percent of the merged company. The company will trade in Japan and New York and the acquisition is expected to become effective in the first half of 2019.
