PRESIDENT IGOR DODON HAS BEEN TEMPORARILY STRIPPED OF HIS DUTIES BY A MOLDOVAN CONSTITUTIONAL COURT.

President Igor Dodon of Moldova was on Monday, 24 September 2018 stripped of his duties by Moldova’s Constitutional Court for refusing to endorse new ministers in a political standoff. According to President Igor Dodon, he refused to approve the candidates for the health and agriculture portfolios because they lacked the necessary skills.
President Dodon is in disagreement with the ruling coalition which favours closer relations with the European Union and the United States. The court ruled that the parliamentary speaker or prime minister will be entitled to sign decrees appointing the two ministers. This will be the fourth time his (President Dodon) presidential powers were suspended due to his refusal to approve government-proposed candidates for ministers or enact laws passed by parliament.
