PRESIDENT ASHRAF GHANI OF AFGHANISTAN HAS ENDED HIS GOVERNMENT’S CEASEFIRE WITH THE TALIBAN, ORDERING TROOPS TO RESUME OPERATIONS.

It was reported that the ceasefire between the Afghanistan government led by President Ashraf Ghani and the Taliban insurgency group has officially ended. The country’s president has ordered the troops to resume operations against the Taliban as well as the Islamic State fighters. President Ashraf Ghani who appealed for comprehensive peace talks stated recently during a news conference in Kabul that it is left for the Taliban and the Islamic State fighters to join the peace process or not. After a three-day truce during last month (June 15-17, 2018) Eid holidays, President Ghani ordered government forces to suspend offensive operations for 10 days and this made the unarmed Taliban fighters to mingle with soldiers, police and civilians on the streets of Kabul and other parts of the country but the truce which many hoped would end Afghan’s 40 years of fighting yielded little or no result as the Taliban have rejected talks. On Saturday, 30 June 2018, the Taliban announced that they had attacked Dasht-e Qala, a district in the northern province of Takhar.
