FOUR FORMER FEDERAL JUDGES IN ARGENTINA HAVE BEEN SENTENCED TO LIFE IN PRISON FOR CRIMES COMMITTED AGAINST HUMANITY DURING THE COUNTRY’S LAST DICTATORSHIP.
Viewers Corner News was informed that four ex federal judges in Argentina were sentenced to life in prison on Wednesday 26 July, 2017 for crimes committed against humanity during the country’s last dictatorship (1976-1983). According to the information, those four ex judges were found guilty by a court in Mendoza province for kidnappings, torture and murders. The court’s ruling stated that these ex judges (Guillermo Petra Recabarren, Rolando Carrizo, Otilio Romano and Luis Miret) failed to investigate petitions of habeas corpus filed by relatives of dissidents who disappeared during the dictatorship. Otilio Romano (one of the ex judges) served at the Mendoza Federal Chamber but was dismissed in  2011. He later fled his country (Argentina) to Chile to avoid trial but was extradited back to Argentina in 2013. It was estimated that over 7,600 people were killed or disappeared during the dictatorship.
