CANADA IMPOSED RETALIATORY TARIFFS ON UNITED STATES PRODUCTS INCLUDING METAL, BOURBON AND ORANGE JUICE.

The Canadian government has imposed retaliatory tariffs on $12.6 billion worth of United States products including steel and iron (25 percent), Florida orange juice, ketchup, Kentucky bourbon, pizza, Wisconsin toilet paper, maple syrup, dishwasher detergent, coffee beans, strawberry jam and North Carolina gherkins. This is in response to President Donald Trump’s decision on June 1, 2018 to impose tariffs on steel (25%) and aluminium (10%) imports from allies like Canada, Mexico, the European Union, and 25 percent tariffs on several Chinese imports. Mexico and the European Union have also imposed a number of tariffs on United States goods, including on Kentucky bourbon, Wisconsin-made Harley-Davidson motorcycles and Florida orange juice. Canada and US are among the world’s two largest trading partners but the relations between the two neighbours (Canada and United States) have deteriorated to the lowest after the recent concluded Group of Seven (G-7) summit when President Donald Trump abruptly rejected the joint statement and insulted President Justin Trudeau of Canada. According to the United State government data, the trading exchange between Canada and US is estimated at $673.9 billion worth of goods and services in 2017.
