Audrey Azoulay, the 45 year old former French minister (culture minister) under  the leadership of ex-president Francois Hollande has been appointed to head the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO). According to the report our correspondent gathered, on Friday, November 10, 2017, the UNESCO member states approved the nomination of Audrey Azoulay to head the agency. Audrey Azoulay who becomes UNESCO’s second woman director general garnered 131 votes with only 19 opposed to defeat Hamad bin Abdulaziz Al-Kawari of Qatar. Azoulay was nominated last month (October) by the U.N. cultural agency’s executive board and she will succeed Irina Bokova (UNESCO’s first woman director) whose tenure expires this month (November). Congratulations to Audrey Azoulay.
