A PHILIPPINE COURT HAS CONVICTED IMELDA MARCOS (FORMER PHILIPPINES FIRST LADY) OF CORRUPTION AND ORDERED FOR HER ARREST.

Imelda Marcos (89 year old Congresswoman and widow of the late dictator Ferdinand Marcos) has been convicted of corruption by a special anti-graft Sandiganbayan court. The court ordered on Friday, 9 November 2018 that the former first lady be arrested. She was ordered to serve 6 to 11 years in prison for each of the seven counts of violating an anti-corruption law when she illegally transferred about $200 million to Swiss foundations in the 1970s as Metropolitan Manila governor. She is likely to appeal her case to avoid jail and losing her seat in Congress. Imelda Marcos and her late husband allegedly opened and managed Swiss foundations in violation of the Philippine Constitution, using it to hide stolen funds. Ferdinand Marcos (Imelda Marcos late husband) was Philippines president from 1965 to 1986. He ruled as a dictator under martial law from 1972 to 1981. His regime was known for corruption, extravagance and brutality. He was ousted by an army-backed “people power” revolt in 1986. He died in self-exile in Hawaii in 1989 and his family came back to the Philippines after his death.
